Captive or Consortium - Which Solution is Better? As health insurance costs continue to rise, many employers are looking for innovative solutions and strategies to help control healthcare cost. Performance based solutions can be daunting and overwhelming. On the surface a captive health insurance option and a consortium model are quite similar. They allow employers to band together with other employers to get better pricing, and the ability to offset the risk.By sharing risk, organizations are less likely to face significant healthcare financial burdens from large medical claims. Both captive and consortium solutions can lead to substantial cost savings while improving benefits. Both arrangements believe in the power of a performance based solutions that offers transparency and flexibility to the health plan with a long term approach. Both strategies leverage stop loss purchasing to provide competitive pricing and stop loss protection to their participants. In a captive model, employers typically have to buy-in (collateral) and are co-owners in the captive. This model is a more direct risk sharing approach, with cost sharing with the captive layer for high-cost claimants.A consortium model provides the ability for employers to band together by pooling their resources to save administrative costs, and negotiating better discounts from plan providers. Which solution is right for your organization and your employees and their families? It’s all about choice, control and cost. We work directly with our clients to discover the most tailored benefit solutions; fully-insured, level-funded, self-funded, captive, consortiums, reference-based pricing, etc…We’d be happy to explore any and all of these options for your company.

The Biden-Harris administration is taking action to limit the sale of short-term medical insurance (being referred to as "junk" health insurance plans) that do not provide adequate coverage. These plans may have high deductibles, limited networks of providers, or exclusions for certain pre-existing conditions. This could mean that health insurance agents will have fewer of these plans to sell. It could also mean that they will need to be more careful about explaining the benefits and limitations of these plans to consumers. The administration is also proposing new rules that would require health insurance companies to disclose more information about the benefits and limitations of their plans. This could make it easier for consumers to compare plans and choose the one that is right for them. Read the full article:
